Dogs are known to be man's best friend, and through our interaction we both become family, whether we realize it or not. Both canine and man are social animals that gather in packs by nature and are always seeking or testing ones dominate place within their pack environment.
Canines are always testing their social status to see if they can dominate to become the pack leader. As dog owners we should always be aware of this and use dog training as a means of teaching canines how we communicate and maintain control as the pack leader. If you the dog owner are not seen as the pack leader than your canine will likely have behavior problems that will affect every aspect of your relationship.
Here are some easy to understand tips to train your best friend:
- Take a little time communicating and teaching your dog each and every day. Use this time to bond and have fun while training your pooch. This should involve the appropriate amount of exercise for your particular dog.
- Socialize your dog. If you have any neighbors that have dogs take the time to let them play together. I recommend doing this with supervision until all parties know what acceptable behavior is.
- Treat your dog properly and remember that your dog's character reflects how well you have taught and treated them. Positive reinforcement training is the most effective communication tool you can use to get positive results from your canine.
Give your dog good quality food, water and medical care as needed. Ask your veterinarian about what food and supplements are best for your canine and how much exercise does your dog require for good dog health.
Make sure you have a comfortable crate or kennel for them so they have their own space. A nice little personal retreat where they can sleep or just hang out is another valuable tool to dog training.
Remember that training your dog is teaching them how you communicate to them. Therefore be consistent and train regularly every day. Be sure and train as you are the dominate pack leader and by doing so your dog will become a well behaved part of your family pack.
